Nearly nine in ten 18+ New Zealanders watched at least some of this year's Rugby World Cup.
Nearly all Kiwis managed to find some sporting spirit during the world cup, a new survey shows.
93% of New Zealanders aged 18+ watched at least some of this year’s Rugby World Cup.
According to the not-so-catchily-named Fly Buys Colmar Brunton Mood of the New Zealand Traveller survey, 41% of New Zealanders watched or attended more games than they intended to before the tournament started.
This is likely linked to the All Black’s progression through the Cup; 36% changed their Labour Day plans so they could watch the All Blacks in the final.
The survey also found 9% of Kiwis went to see an All Blacks victory parade - nearly one in 10. Two out of five of us (40%) watched them on television.
The parades in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch gave Kiwis an opportunity to share in the victory celebrations and revel in the glory of a World Cup, said Colmar Brunton chief executive Harry Pappafloratos.
“The scenes of absolute jubilation will be cemented in our memories for a long time.”
Tourism Industry Association Chief Executive Tim Cossar said more than 133,000 international visitors came to the country for the World Cup.
