A new agreement was signed today giving Maori access to loans to build houses on ancestral land.
Maori have long struggled to get loans from banks because the land has multiple owners but now Kiwibank, in a partnership with Housing New Zealand, will provide loans up to $200,000 without deposit.
The Crown will guarantee the loans under a programme known as Kainga Whenua.
