Mr Hunter won the best commentary category for his columns on Fonterra, lines companies and David Henderson’s Property Ventures.

It is the second year he has won this award category and is a previous overall winner.

Mr McNicol was named best young journalist for his stories on Mad Butcher store liquidations, Mark Bryers and the hidden past of a Nelson real estate agent.

Ms Macfie was named overall winner for her feature on Fonterra’s milk price woes.
Her prize is a five-day digital journalism course at the University of California, Berkeley.
