NBR’s Nathan Smith, Hamish McNicol, Jason Walls and new comer Joshua Riddiford toss around some of the week’s most stimulating, challenging, ethically obtuse stories.
Kicking it off this week was the TPP, one of the world’s biggest ever trade deals.
It didn’t take long for the conversation about global trade, to segway into a discussion about US politics.
The Rumble critiqued the Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump along with Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
It’s all about the limelight, one Rumbler argues. The American people are throwing their support behind candidates which are seen to be “independent thinkers.”
Whereby, it does not matter what nonsense they happen to spout, if it’s a unique take on something, they are rewarded in the polls.
Case in point is Republican Ben Carson, who actually received a bump in the polls after making Islamophobic comments.
Back closer to home, The Rumble mulled over the topic of Chris Cairns.
Mr Cairns has been charged with perjury and perverting the course of justice in relation to a 2012 libel case. Mr Cairns has stated he had "never, ever cheated at cricket.”
One Rumbler says it’s a shame to see this happen to someone who was one of the great heroes of New Zealand cricket.
Finally, John Key’s secret mission to Iraq was discussed at length. For Mr Key – much like US president Barack Obama – the trip was nothing more than a “good photo opportunity.”
