NBR Rich Lister Cameron Gregory is selling his home overlooking Paroa Bay in Russell.

He wants to do a road trip through the US, find for more classic cars for his collection, and sail the Mediterranean with his family.

The house would cost about $12 million to build today, he says. It has a rateable value of $5.9 million.

It is seven times the average New Zealand home at 1000sq m and has a 54sq m garage capable of taking eight cars or boats, plus a caretaker’s residence.

In a prepared media statement, Mr Gregory says he’ll “miss fishing off the beach with the open fire, swimming with the dolphins in the bay and playing sport on the field with at times up to 30 or more family and friends, and hitting golf balls to the end of the field.”

Tenders for the property close on Thursday April 17.

Mr Gregory and two co-owners sold their business Metropolitan Glass in 2006 to an Australian equity firm Catalyst Investment Managers for $366.2 million, giving each of them around $116 million.

He also owns a home in Takapuna with a rateable value of $13.8 million.
