Contagion chief executive Dean Taylor and social influence director Tom Bates discuss millenials and their influence on the media landscape on NBR Radio and on demand on MyNBR Radio.

Young people have always wanted to be rebellious but new technologies have equipped them with the tools to change the ways companies appear in the media, ad men say.

Messrs Taylor and Bates discuss how companies such as Air NZ and departments like Tourism NZ have had to accelerate their digital strategy faster than other local companies because they are competing against well-resourced foreign conglomerates.

The duo say companies can no longer just shout at the public and put up a wall – they have to be more personable.

They also say the big four broadcasters may win the legal battle over global mode but they will lose the war for consumer eyeballs.

Native advertising has sparked concerns over the credibility of publishers because the disclosure of it is entirely agreed upon. The men of Contagion say consumers are open to native advertising as long as it is clearly disclosed and has relevant or useful information.
