John Banks has used an NBR Radio interview to hit out at the solicitor-general and Queen’s Counsel Paul Dacre following his acquittal yesterday.
Yesterday the Court of Appeal acquitted Mr Banks of filing a false electoral return. The court had found the Crown withheld evidence, which had the effect of misleading the court.
He says it is “outrageous” that the politically appointed solicitor-general was calling the shots against him as a MP, and said the Australian approach of an independent prosecution service should be adopted.
He labelled Paul Dacre QC, who was hired by the Crown to put its case, as the solicitor-general’s “crony” and said the lawyer should be stripped of his silk.
“There is something systemically wrong about Wellington when, if they behaved this way with me, then how do you think they treat the ordinary Joe Bloggs?”
Mr Banks called “BS” when asked by NBR whether there were still ethical questions to answer surrounding his association with Kim Dotcom.
“This is BS. The Court of Appeal has been through every single little skerrick of information, half-truth, lies BS and everything else that’s gone on in this case … I have been completely vindicated.”
