Nick Grant talks about the week's top media news on NBR Radio and on demand on MyNBR Radio.

Although the ratings for Masterchef are not a catastrophe, 160,000 viewers is by no means a good start for the show.

NBR commentator Nick Grant says it appears audiences’ appetite for “warmed over formats” is declining rapidly.

“It helps to indicate what we’ve been saying for a while – which is audiences are going off the boil when it comes to cooking reality shows,” he says.

Mr Grant says the dampening audience appetite for cooking shows has stretched to TV3’s Come Dine With Me and it didn’t help that the show was rushed.

Things at Mediaworks have not been all too rosy for a while, he says, and the soap planned to take the spot of Home and Away at 5:30pm is still in development.

“Home and Away delivered a strong audience to the 6pm bulletin. Since TV3 lost that, it has really been struggling.”
