This is a supplied media release.

Baldwins Intellectual Property is pleased to announce the appointment of new partner, Andy Locke. His promotion grows the partnership to seven and strengthens the firm’s patents leadership, particularly in the mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and telecoms fields.

Andy has more than 17 years’ experience specialising in patents and registered designs across the mechanical, electrical, telecommunications and medical technology fields. Based in the firm’s Wellington office, Andy joined Baldwins in 2012 and held the position of Senior Associate before being appointed as a partner.

Announcing the appointment, Chairman Wes Jones said:

"On behalf of all the partners, I’m delighted to welcome Andy to the partnership. As well as having superb technical expertise in the mechanical, electrical, telecoms and medical technology areas, Andy has a strong commercial acumen that is invaluable to our clients.”

Before joining Baldwins, Andy was a partner of a UK patent attorney firm. He spent his formative training years in London, and is a qualified patent agent in the United Kingdom and Europe. After relocating to New Zealand with his young family in 2012, he qualified as a patent attorney in New Zealand and Australia.

Andy has a business focus specialising in freedom to operate and possible infringement issues, as well as the drafting and prosecution of patent and design applications, and handling contentious proceedings. He advises clients in relation to the USA and Europe, as well as New Zealand and Australia. His appointment to the partnership reflects Baldwins’ growth, particularly in the fields of mechanical and electrical patents, and strengthens the firm’s future service delivery in these areas.

I’m excited to be joining the partnership at Baldwins. Since moving to this part of the world I have worked with some amazing people, and with world-leading clients who epitomise the innovative and positive thinking in New Zealand. I enjoy the approachable, solution-focussed way people operate at Baldwins and I’m very proud to be taking this next step in helping our clients as much as I can.” – Andy Locke, Partner

Baldwins’ partners and staff look forward to working with Andy in his new role, and continuing the firm’s growth and development.
