Two new Board members have been announced for the Museum of Transport and Technology Board (MOTAT). The new board members will bring a range of experience to the MOTAT Board.
Regional Facilities Auckland (RFA) is responsible for making a recommendation to Auckland Council on the six Auckland Council appointments to the Museum Trust Board. The MOTAT Society appoints four members to the Board.
The new appointees to the Museum of Transport and Technology Board are Sue Wood and Bill Rayner. Dr Lesley McTurk, Richard Jeffery and the Hon Judith Tizard will continue to serve along with Mike Spraggon, John McElhinney, Lindsay Corban, Graeme Osborne and Bruce Howat.
The new board members are joining MOTAT at a time when the board has committed to implementing the 2014-2019 MOTAT Strategy. The strategy, which was launched on 1 July 2014, outlines how MOTAT will use its focus on New Zealand’s past, present and future transport and technology heritage to tell the story of Kiwi innovation in a creative way that
inspires and educates its visitors.
It is an exciting time for MOTAT with the redevelopment of the museum’s buildings in accordance with the plan developed with the late Sir Ian Athfield and its new approach to exhibition development.
“MOTAT is an Auckland taonga and this is an important time in its history,” says Len Brown. “I look forward to the contribution Sue and Bill will be able to bring to the board as it implements its strategy.”
Dr McTurk also acknowledged retiring Trust Board members James Douglas and Vern Walsh who have served on the Trust Board for two years.
“On behalf of the MOTAT team including the Board, Director, staff and volunteers we would like to extend our sincere thanks to James and Vern for their valuable contribution and commitment to MOTAT during their term.”
The changes to the Trust Board take effect on 1 October 2015.
