Auckland businesswoman Claudette Hauiti has just been sworn in at Parliament as a new Government list MP.

Founder of television and film company Front of the Box Productions and the driving force behind many successful documentaries dealing with Maori, Pacific Islands and transgender issues, Ms Hauiti replaces disgraced MP Aaron Wayne Gilmore, whose resignation took effect on Monday.

Wearing a feather cloak, the feisty and clearly happy Ms Huaiti took the oath of allegiance in Maori, and to a round of applause was welcomed to Parliament by Prime Minister John Key.
