MediaWorks mulls axing another current affairs show

Changing media consumption habits blamed for review but scheduling changes surely played a part.
Yesterday MediaWorks issued a terse, three-paragraph, four-sentence release announcing that – like Campbell Live before it – the company is considering canning current affairs show 3D.
The release said it has put the proposal that 3D not be renewed for 2016 to staff and quoted group head of news Mark Jennings insisting the move is not a reflection of the talented people who make the show but more about “the way media consumption habits are changing.”
According to some observers, the changes responsible for the catastrophically low ratings 3D is currently experiencing are in large part due to the many scheduling shifts the TV3 programme has weathered this year.
As one industry expert told NBR, building people’s TV habits “happens really, really slowly” and rescheduling a show multiple times will almost certainly negatively impact on its audience.
The latest move 3D suffered – from 6.30pm Sundays to 9.30pm Mondays – was marked by its viewership going into freefall, from 240,000 viewers (5+) to just 49,200.
