When travelling, it’s easy to spot a Kiwi.
Private Bin spent a bit of the last couple of weeks in more tropical climes and had stopped off in Singapore to say Hi to a couple of folk on the way.
Before quaffing a Singapore Sling at Raffles along with a half yard of Tiger beer, Private Bin dropped off the backpack at the hotel before being collected and heading off.
Milling around in the foyer was a bunch of people, suitcases and general mayhem and while Private Bin was quietly lounging reading the Straits Times on a battered couch wedged up against a Korean family of 10, we noted the solid and confident gait of a Kiwi heading for the lifts.
You can pick a Kiwi in the crowd. The swagger, the look and the determination to reach the destination.
Private Bin was relieved to find that we weren’t the only one with a limited budget staying at the “other” end of town away from the flashness of the “quays” but was surprised that it was Olympic shot putter Valerie Vili with tight purse strings.
Vili was in Singers resting and training after competing in Taiwan before heading to New York for another.
Private Bin hoped she wasn’t using the hotel’s pool, which was little more than a deep puddle.
