The Prime Minister has reportedly apologised to a waitress who accused him of repeatedly pulling her hair.
The waitress, who made claims in an anonymous blog post on The Daily Blog, said over a period of months Mr Key pulled her ponytail, and on one occasion approached her from behind pulled her hair, and joked his wife had done it.
A spokeswoman for Mr Key said his actions were intended to be light-hearted.
In the blog post the waitress says in the beginning she recalls thinking to herself he was just trying to be playful.
However the hair pulling was repeated during later visits, and during one visit Mr Key’s wife Bronagh, told him to leave the poor girl alone.
According to the post the Prime Minister later gave the waitress two bottles of his private collection of Pinot Noir, and apologised.
In 2013 National MP Aaron Gilmore resigned after threatening to have a waiter sacked after a server refused him more wine.
