Jucy win for Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year

Tim Alpe of vehicle hire company Jucy has been named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year for 2010.

Mr Alpe will represent New Zealand at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards in Monte Carlo in May 2011.

Jucy is New Zealand’s first tourist-focussed vehicle hire company to embrace next generation technology to enable travellers to plan, price and book low-cost travel deals.

Jucy now has more than 2000 vehicles on the road and offices throughout New Zealand and Australia.

The brand also encompasses the first Jucy Hotel in Auckland as well as Jucy by Design where the company’s camper vans are custom built.

Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards director Jon Hooper congratulated all finalists.

“We’ve made it out business to celebrate entrepreneurs in New Zealand and around the world,” Mr Hooper said.

“What this year’s finalists have achieved in the current environment is nothing short of remarkable. The Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards is a unique opportunity to acknowledge that.

“So far Tim Alpe has been competing for the title of New Zealand’s top entrepreneur. Now the competition goes global as he competes alongside 42 of the world’s best entrepreneurs at the World Entrepreneur Of The Year in Monte Carlo.

“That will be an incredibly exciting and rewarding networking experience for Tim that can open doors and present many new business opportunities,” Mr Hooper said.

The five finalists were:

Products: Craig Carr, Winslow Ltd, Ashburton

Services: Tim Alpe, Jucy, Auckland

Technology and emerging industries: Cameron Mehlhopt, SatrNow.com, Wellington

Master Entrepreneur (for leaders of well-established businesses who have demonstrated a significant commitment to entrepreneurship): Katherine Corich, Sysdoc, Wellington

Young Entrepreneur (age 35 or under at close of applications): Daniel Robertson, Fishpond.co.nz, Auckland

Commendations were awarded to Sebastian Stapleton of Mastagard and to Tony Armstrong of Power Systems Consultants for their outstanding commitment to entrepreneurship

Previous overall winners include Diane Foreman of Emerald Group, Michael Hill, Weta Workshop’s Richard Taylor and Sir George Fistonich of Villa Maria Estate.
