John Hare has been appointed chief executive of Holmes Group. Founded and majority owned in New Zealand, Holmes Group is a multinational consultancy with five subsidiary companies specialising in engineering design, fire engineering, product development and property.
Tone Borren, Holmes Group Chair said, “John has been appointed to focus on the strategic direction for Holmes Group, to make the most of some great opportunities across New Zealand, Australia and the United States.”
Mr Hare, one of New Zealand’s leading engineers, said “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to push forward on the next phase of Holmes Group’s development. With our skills and expertise, and the ability to collaborate across the Group, we have a great deal to offer our clients. My role is to identify new opportunities, ensure that we better service our clients, increase our contribution as leaders in engineering and grow the business locally and internationally.”
Mr Hare holds a BE hons (Civil), FIPENZ, CPEng, PE (California). He was formerly a Technical Director at Holmes Consulting Group and took leave to take up a role as principal engineering advisor at the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) in 2011, for two years. He has held various senior leadership and governance roles within Holmes. John has sat on numerous technical advisory boards and committees and authored many technical papers.
In 2013 he won the prestigious Fulton-Downer Gold Medal - President's Award granted by the Institution of Professional Engineers - New Zealand (IPENZ) and was also made a Fellow of IPENZ (FIPENZ). This membership recognises those who have made a substantive contribution to the development of the engineering profession, its practices or IPENZ itself.
Mr Hare took up the role on 1 September 2015 and will be Christchurch based.
