Former NZME chief executive Jane Hastings is heading back to the company she ditched in 2012 to join The Radio Network.
“Hurricane Jane” is taking up a new role as chief operating officer of Event Hospitality & Entertainment (formerly Amalgamated Holdings) based in Sydney, beginning in August.
She worked for the same company in 2010 as general manager of its cinema operation in New Zealand. She was quickly promoted to regional general manager and relocated to Sydney in 2011.
Ms Hastings returned to New Zealand in 2012 to join The Radio Network as chief executive officer, before being promoted to chief executive officer of New Zealand Media Entertainment (NZME).
Her main task during her 18 month tenure was to integrate NZME’s assets – including The Radio Network – into one media company, which she completed in 2014.
Ms Hastings tells the NZ Herald her new role is “a big step up” from her previous position at Event Hospitality & Entertainment.
"I love the entertainment side of the business, and now I get to be across the hospitality side as well so I'm really delighted… When you get the opportunity to be invited back into a business in a much larger capacity – it's an honour and quite humbling,” she says.
Event Hospitality & Entertainment owns 54 hotels and 142 cinemas in Australia, New Zealand and Germany.
It generated $A110 million in profit from revenue of $A661 million revenue in the six months ending December 31, 2015, according to its most recent half yearly report.
