It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s… pizza?

Domino’s sought to one-up its pizza delivery by bungy jump with another extreme sport – skydiving.

The pizza company chose a radio competition winner to kick off a pizza delivery by jumping out of a plane 12,000 feet in the sky. (See video below)

Domino’s says its marketing stunt was another world first and celebrated the re-opening of a flagship store in Taupo.

The stunt took place last week and saw Alison Abel perform the jump with pizza strapped to her torso.

Once she landed she still had to deliver the pizza to a winner from the Domino’s Facebook page.

Ms Abel was rewarded for her efforts with six months of free pizza.

“I have skydived once before and vowed never to do it again but the lure of having a night off cooking each week was irresistible,” says Ms Abel. Domino’s NZ general manager Scott Bush says skydiving was chosen because it is synonymous with Taupo.

“Our store in Taupo is right on the waterfront of one of the most beautiful towns in the world; it attracts people from every corner of the globe due to its beauty and the daredevil nature of the town.

“We needed to make sure we captured what Taupo is all about and offer a local the chance to do what Taupo does best – skydive.

“Plus I didn’t want to do the skydive, so we had to put the call out to our fans!” he says.
