InternetNZ launches new funding rounds

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

InternetNZ, the non-profiit that administers the .nz domain and advocates on behalf of users, has launched two funding rounds.

The Community Projects funding round is to help fund community projects that will extend the availability, use and benefit of the internet and its associated technologies and applications in New Zealand, while the Conference Attendance funding round provides support for attendance at conferences where that attendance will assist in the achieving of InternetNZ’s Objects and where it will grow the pool of expertise in particular areas in New Zealand.

InternetNZ has a total of $80,000 for its Communtiy Projects funding and $20,000 for conference attendance.

Chief executive Jordan Carter says community funding was one of the best parts of the job.

"Working alongside some of the best and brightest in New Zealand's internet community is such a highlight. By contributing this money to the work of others we're really helping them to build internet capability in this countrry. We've previously provided money to groups who have set out to map the internet in New Zealand and provide free wireless to some of New Zealand's poorer communities.

"The internet is such a dominant part of our society now that any work we can do to help grow New Zealand's capabilities is essential," Mr Carter says.

The application processes will be in two stages:

Stage 1 - Expressions of Interest

  • Applicants submit an expression ofinterest, with a brief outline of their request.
  • Shortlisted applications will be invited to proceed to Stage 2.

Stage 2 - Detailed Project Proposal

  • Shortlisted applicants submit a detailed project proposal.
  • Final decisions will be made by InternetNZ's grants committee.

The first stage – expressions of interest – closes on October 16. Details and application forms are at https://internetnz.net.nz/forms/Community-Projects-Funding-Round and https://internetnz.net.nz/forms/Conference-Attendance-Funding-Round.
