Inner-city Auckland residents take Bunnings decision to Environment Court
Residents in Arch Hill have so far spent $50,000 to oppose a DIY retail store.
An Auckland Council hearings panel decision to approve a Bunnings DIY warehouse in Arch Hill will be appealed by a residents' association
Bunnings, a subsidiary of West Australia-based Wesfarmers, wants to build on a 8430sq m retail site in Grey Lynn.
The decision came with conditions including limiting the days, hours and numbers of delivery vehicles. They will also affect noise control.
Arch Hill Residents' Society committee member David Batten says the group will now go to the Environment Court.
He says concerns put to the independent commissioners have not been addressed and the associaiton has no option but to appeal.
Mr Batten says the application is non-complaint with the definition of "mixed use zone" under the draft Unitary plan.
The association had so far spent $50,000 on opposing the development, and continues to fundraise through movie nights and special beer brewing.
