Callaghan Innovation general manager Maori Economy Hemi Rolleston has been appointed as interim chief executive following the surprise resignation of chief executive Mary Quin.
Mr Rolleston arrived at Callaghan in March, 2014, and before that was chief executive of Maori-owned kiwifruit business Te Awanui Huka Pak for eight years.
He has also held roles with Waikato University as Maori liaison officer and with Tauranga District Council as a Maori land officer and revenue manager.
Mr Rolleston has iwi affiliations to Te Arawa, Ngati Ranginui and Ngai te Rangi.
Dr Quin is stepping down at the end of this month from her inaugural CEO role after three years to pursue personal interests in New Zealand and overseas.
Callaghan's board has begun the process of finding a permanent replacement.
Mr Rolleston will start August 1.
