Guy Hallwright gets community work for GBH road rage incident
The well-known analyst faced one charge of recklessly causing grievous bodily harm to a Korean motorist.
Forsyth Barr analyst Guy Hallwright has been sentenced to 250 hours of community work for recklessly causing grievous bodily harm to Korean motorist Sung Jin Kim.
He must also pay $20,000 in reparations to Mr Kim.
Hallwright was found guilty by an Auckland district court jury in June.
He ran over Mr Kim’s foot after a brief but heated exchange in Mt Eden in September 2010, causing serious injuries.
The charge was reduced during the trial from one of intent to cause grievous bodily harm, which carried a far harsher penalty.
During today’s sentencing, Judge Raoul Neave told Hallwright his driving off after running over Mr Kim was not a case of a “hit and run”.
“When it became apparent you had come into contact with him, you called the police and in every sense seem to have behaved in a responsible fashion,” he said.
“This was a panicked reaction rather than a measured one.”
Hallwright’s Queen’s counsel, Paul Davison, said while Mr Kim was seriously hurt, Hallwright did not intend to injure him.
He was simply trying to get himself and his daughter away from a threatening situation, Mr Davison says.
Hallwright has also been disqualified from driving for 18 months.
