Global dairy prices slip at latest auction

Average prices fell 1.3% to $US3487 a tonne from April 17 in the latest overnight Global Dairy Trade auction.
Benchmark whole milk powder, which made up more than half the volume sold, fell 1.1% to $US3205/t.
Demand for skim milk powder continued with a slight rise of 0.3% to $US2051/t.
A small amount of butter milk powder surged 17.7% to $US2314/t, while anhydrous milk fat fell 1.7% to $US6222/t.
Cheddar fell 3.6% to $US3998/t and butter was down 3.5% to $US5581/t, while rennet casein rose 3.9% to $US5015/t and lactose was up 3.9% to $US714/t.
The total volume sold was 21,580t, with 118 winning bids among 179 participants.
