Former CERA executive lashes out at Sutton

Tina Nixon describes Sutton as “self-serving” and “egotistical.”

LATEST: Details leak about Sutton inquiry

A former senior employee at the Christchurch Earthquake Recovery Authority has described its former chief executive, Roger Sutton, as “self-serving” and “egotistical.”

Mr Sutton resigned yesterday following an investigation into a sexual harassment claim made against him by a senior CERA staff member. The investigation did not recommend his resignation but found his conduct did not always meet the standard expected of public service leaders.

He said yesterday he was sorry and that he had been seeing a psychologist.

“I never meant to harm anyone. I called women honey and sweetie. I was wrong. It’s sexist."

Tina Nixon, a former senior communications staff member, has written on social media that reporters need to get past the "breathtaking PR snow job" perpetuated by Mr Sutton.

“Just for the record people – CERA was a robust environment. The most robust environment of the half dozen or so govt departments I have worked for.”

She says following the State Service’s Commission report no woman in the public service should feel confident that any complaint would be investigated professionally and without bias.

“So do people really think that a hug was what it was all about?”

According to her LinkedIn, Ms Nixon now works for Masterton District Council but had been employed by CERA for more than three years.

She did not respond to NBR ONLINE’s request for comment.
