Foodstuffs will close its New World store in the North Shore suburb of Milford and rebuild on the same site.

The site is adjacent to the Milford Mall, which contains a Countdown supermarket.
Doug Cochrane, general manager retail at Foodstuffs North Island, says the decision to rebuild came from a review of the long-term plans for the store, which is one of the oldest in the New World portfolio.
“We determined a renovation of the old building simply wasn’t the best option,” Mr Cochrane says. “We want to ensure we are able to be here for many years to come, so we have decided that due to the existing store already being in the best location, a rebuild and creation of a new generation New World is the best way forward.”
Owner operator Sarah Aston says the rebuilt store will have 40% more retail space.
“It will be much lighter and brighter with more choice and value,” she says.
During the shutdown, the staff of 29 full-timers, 17 part-timers will be redeployed to other New World stores, including the new Browns Bay store which is due to open on March 17.
