Fibre cut stuffs Vodafone call centres nationwide

Whoops.

Mon, 16 Feb 2015

UPDATE: Vector repaired the cable shortly after 7pm.

Spokeswoman Sandy Hodges says, "A third party contractor cut through both our fibre cable and a gas pipe at 11.25am today.

"As a gas pipe had been struck, the Fire Service took control of the scene while the gas pipe was repaired. This was done at 3.36pm. Only then could the fibre crews get in and begin repairs.

"Vodafone the only customer affected at this time. We apologise for any inconvenience and will be finding out how the contractor managed to dig through these assets."

EARLIER: An unexpected fibre cut in Penrose has hit Vodafone call centres nationwide.

Vodafone’s mobile, broadband and business customers are currently unable to get through to call centres via its 0800 and 0508 numbers, or by calling 777 and 888.

The fibre cut is also impacting customer self-service tools such as MyVodafone.

Vodafone’s network is unaffected. Customers are using mobile, fixed and business services as normal.

Teams are working on a solution at the highest priority, the company says.

Fibre repair work will be completed by Vector.

"It's a Vector cable. It wasn't cut by Vodafone," a Vodafone rep tells NBR.
