In a trial that coincides with Facebook's pending IPO, some users are being asked to pay to highlight posts.
A screen shot circulating shows a $US2 charge.
However, Facebook Australia New Zealand communications and policy manager Mia Garlick told NBR ONLINE, "The test is not fixed at a specific price — there are a range of price points, including free."
Ms Garlick added, "We're constantly testing new features across the site. This particular test is simply to gauge people’s interest in this method of sharing with their friends."
The charge, being trialled with a "select group" was not aimed at business users but all Facebook users, Ms Garlick said.
