New Zealand workers rated work-life balance as the most important factor in keeping them with their current employer, while job seekers continue to view salary and employee benefits as the No 1 priority, a survey published today by human resources specialist Randstad shows.

Among nearly 8000 work-aged Kiwis polled this year, more than 53% weigh work-life balance the most on their decision to stay with the current employer. But for people looking for work, only 10% rated that as the biggest attraction in a job, up from just 4% in 2012, the survey showed.

"As far as New Zealanders are concerned, there is more to a job than money," said Randstad New Zealand country manager Brien Keegan.

However, money continues to trump conditions. For the fifth consecutive year since the survey was started, salary and employee benefits rank highest of five most important criteria for choosing an employer, by 21% of respondents. That is followed by long-term job security at 12%, interesting job content on 11%, and pleasant working atmosphere, at 10%.

The survey found 20% of respondents said they would change jobs in the next 12 months, citing lack of career opportunities, loss of interest in job content, and low compensation as the main concerns, which is consistent with the global trend.
