The Chairman of the Eden Park trust Board, Mr Doug McKay, has announced the appointment of the Park’s new CEO, Mr Guy Ngata.
Mr Ngata joins Eden Park from the 21,000 capacity Allphones Arena in Sydney, where he has been General Manager for the last three years.
Mr Ngata is an Aucklander who is taking up the Eden Park CEO role after five years overseas, which included finalising the construction completion then the operational execution of the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai.
This project involved a partnership arrangement with stadium operator AEG, the National Basketball Association of the United States and Chinese partner Oriental Pearl Group. During World Expo 2010 this venue operated for 184 consecutive days servicing 1.3 million patrons to ticketed events and 6.7 million retail customers.
Prior to his overseas experience in the stadium business, Mr Ngata was CEO of Vector Arena in Auckland, with previous roles at Trusts Stadium in West Auckland and Manager of Coaching at Auckland Rugby for five years.
“We are fortunate to have someone with the mix of stadium and sporting experience that Mr Ngata has accumulated during the past fifteen years,” said Mr McKay.
“His international experience, combined with his existing networks in New Zealand, make him a highly desirable appointment and we look forward to welcoming him on 1 January during a very busy summer of sporting events for Eden Park,” Mr McKay said.
