Jaguar Presents Last Night at the Proms
Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra
Auckland Town Hall
November 12
This week’s Auckland Philharmonia concert took the audience to foreign lands with playings of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade and Corigliano’s Pied Piper. Next week their concert will be a much more British affair with its annual Last Night at the Proms.
The concert celebrates all the pomp, flag-waving and fanfare of this British orchestral tradition made famous at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and features traditional works including ‘Jerusalem’ and Elgar’s ‘Land of Hope and Glory’.
Alongside conductor Hamish McKeich, will be Australian soprano Penelope Mills performing a selection of Proms favourites to help rouse the audience into song.
The concert is being sponsored by Jaguar and in a celebration of all things British the Auckland Town Hall will be lit in red, white and blue in the lead up to the concert.
This year Jaguar will be providing an extra twist to the occasion. Concertgoers are being encouraged to join in the festive atmosphere by coming dressed in the ‘Best of British’, whether it’s a great British icon or even attired in red, white and blue. They can then have their photo taken by the red carpet photographer to enter into the draw to win one of two prizes awarded to the best-dressed individuals. The grand prize is a luxury weekend for two in the Bay of Islands driving a Jaguar.
