Internet Party founder Kim Dotcom has deleted a tweet (right) that drew criticism from party leader Laila Harre and others.
Yesterday Mr Dotcom tweeted a joke that read:
Hi, I'm Batman
I MEAN BRUCE.
Shit
**Kills hooker*
The tweet was met by a hail of negative responses from those who found it offensive or juvenille.
Writer Coley Tangerina tweeted, "Oh cool. Remind me how Kim Dotcom is helping fill an important gap in politics again?"
On Instagram, Kate Montgomery responded, "Well this is charming. What a disgusting human being."
Prostitutes Collecitve spokeswoman Catherine Healy told NewstalkZB that the Grand Theft Auto-style humour trivialises real cases of murder.
She said it's good the tweet has since been taken down, but she's worried about the thinking behind the joke.
Mr Dotcom, who made his fortune from the (now shut own) Megaupload and sister sites including Megaporn, deleted the post. In in a later tweet (above right), he said Ms Harre has asked him to do so.
He also offered the wisdom:
If you're not using Twitter however the heck you want to You're doing it wrong ;-)
