A handful of business operators are finding themselves in line to repay some serious company funds this week, NBR reports.

In NBR print today, the former husband and wife operators of a rest home have been ordered to repay more than $1.4 million to its owners after being accused of taking more than $1.9 million “as their own.”

The owners of the Torbay Rest Home in Auckland claimed its operators, Duncan and Sara Napier, took the money in unauthorised payments from the company but the couple said the money was used for legitimate rest home expenses.

NBR court reporter Hamish McNicol says Justice Mark Woolford has ordered Mr and Mrs Napier repay more than $1.4 million, saying, at most, 30% of the suspect payments are justified.

Mr Napier, however, tells Mr McNicol he will be appealing the decision, which he is very disappointed with.

Earlier this week, NBR reported two people behind a string of companies linked to Indian restaurant chain Masala are being pursued for about $600,000 for phoenix company and director duty breaches.,

Mr McNicol says this comes a week after they were sentenced to home detention for immigration and exploitation charges.

NBR this week revealed the liquidators of two entities linked to Masala Bucklands Beach are now pursuing Grewal and Jain personally for about $583,000.
