The long, long-awaited extradition hearing against Kim Dotcom and his Mega co-accused finally began this week, featuring ‘too much sh**.’
Despite a last-ditch attempt to push the extradition hearing back for a 10th time, Judge Nevin Dawson opted for the substantive trial to begin in the Auckland District Court on Thursday.
NBR court reporter Hamish McNicol says the allegations came thick and fast on the opening morning, in which the US claims Megaupload, run by Mr Dotcom, Mathias Ortmann, Bram van der Kolk and Finn Batato, was a simple fraud scheme worth $US175 million.
Conversations were also relayed to the packed courtroom, in which it is alleged Mr Dotcom talked about “how evil we are” and deleting conversation logs because there is “too much sh** in here.”
Mr McNicol also highlights a case in this week’s NBR Print edition, in which it is revealed a lease agreement between an Auckland rugby club and the Ministry of Education over a proposed primary school will end in 2019, despite the club seeking a court order it should last until at least 2039.
A judge says College Rifles Rugby & Sports Club’s interpretation of the multi-million dollar contract between the parties is “inconceivable,” despite its bevy of professional experts, including NBR Rich Lister Peter Thompson.
