Christchurch kicks off $1.2m campaign to win back Aussie tourists

Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism has kicked off a $1.2 million "Reimagine Christchurch" campaign to win back Australian tourists.
In 2010 there were 203,000 holiday arrivals from Australia to Christchurch.
In the year after the quakes, that dropped to 111,000.
The situation wasn't helped by the Australian government issuing a travel warning. Its citizens were told to "exercise a high degree of caution" if visiting Christchurch – putting the garden city on a par with Rwanda.
As recently as July, SmartTraveller.gov.au said "Aftershocks are continuing and may further damage infrastructure such as roads, bridges and power and water supply", with the Australian government refusing to ease back on the warning.
After months of complaints, the warning was finally lifted, and Christchurch is on the comeback trail.
