Ngai Tahu, Carter Group and Plenary Conventions NZ have been chosen as the consortium to deliver Christchurch’s new convention centre.

Hotel operator Accor has been selected as the preferred operator.

The next step is to formulate the design and development phase.

Plenary Conventions NZ has produced a concept model and images but the final design is yet to be adopted.

The project is due to begin in 2015 for completion in 2017.

It will be built on the area between Cathedral Square, Colombo St, Armagh St and the Avon River.

The Crown has committed $284 million to the project.

Today’s announcement by government representatives does not include the business case, which has been requested in the past by local media.
