Former New Zealand Rugby Union boss Chris Moller has been picked as the next chairman of SkyCity (NZX:SKC), replacing Rod McGeoch who will step down at the company's annual meeting.
The SkyCity board has also unanimously appointed Adelaide-based Bruce Carter to the role of deputy chairman, effective immediately.
Mr McGeoch said “Chris Moller is an experienced New Zealand based chairman and director and he’ll bring a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm to the role. Bruce Carter is a very experienced and respected business leader in South Australia. I am confident the board, under Chris’s leadership, and supported by Bruce, will continue to further the company’s growth.”
Mr Moller was appointed to the SkyCity Board in December 2008. He is the chairman of Meridian Energy, NZ Transport Agency and New Zealand Cricket. He is also a director of Westpac New Zealand, Rugby New Zealand 2011 and the International Cricket Council. Mr Moller’s term as a SkyCity director is up for election at this year’s Annual Meeting.
Mr Carter was appointed to the SkyCity board in 2010. He is a partner of Ferrier Hodgson in Adelaide and chairman of the Territory Insurance Office (Northern Territory). In June, he was appointed as a member of the Prime Minister's GST review committee. Bruce is also a director of the Australian Submarine Corporation, Genesee and Wyoming Australia, and also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
SkyCity chief executive Nigel Morrison said, "With Chris in New Zealand and Bruce in Adelaide this provides a good and appropriate balance of Trans-Tasman leadership.”
