Chorus has reshuffled its executive team, handing strategic responsibility to general counsel Vanessa Oakley from next March to fill a gap left by recent hire Scott Newton.

The Wellington-based telecommunications network operator today appointed Oakley as general manager of strategy and business, replacing Newton who resigned to take a role at another Kiwi company, it said in a statement. Newton joined Chorus in August and was tasked with running the company's work programme, prioritising initiatives to boost performance, while also keeping an eye on future trends in the market. He came from Fletcher Building where he was GM of transformation and had been the turnaround lead Spark before then.

"Vanessa is a seasoned senior executive who's played a large role right across the company since Chorus was demerged. She leads our regulatory strategy and will continue that within the GM Strategy & Business Operations role," chief executive Kate McKenzie said in a statement. "Scott's work in setting up our internal transformation and Vanesa's work in shaping our external regulatory policy environment now presents Chorus the opportunity to move these forward together."

Chorus reshaped its executive team under CEO McKenzie, who wanted to place greater emphasis on the company's clientele, including the creation of a GM of customer care.

McKenzie today appointed Joanna Crawford as GM of customer care, a role she had been covering in an acting capacity.

Chorus will start looking for a new general counsel and company secretary in the New Year to fill Oakley's shoes.

The company's shares last traded at $3.96 and have slipped 0.3 percent so far this year.
