China Southern Airlines landed its impressive double-decker aircraft in Auckland yesterday to a runway water arch salute.

The plane brought 250 travel agents from China who will be in New Zealand for five days visiting tourist destinations.

The delegation, including chief executive and president Tan Wangeng, arrived to a traditional Maori welcome.

The plane is one of the world’s largest and can carry 525 passengers in a three-class configuration.

The Guangzhou (formerly Canton) based airline will fly from Auckland to China daily.

It is also focused on becoming a stopover into Europe.
