Christchurch Airport is getting its second boost in as many days from an Asian airline.

Taiwan’s China Airlines has announced a new service from Taipei Taoyuan via Melbourne from October 25.

This will double flights to Christchurch from Taiwan to six a week, complementing an existing three times a week service via Sydney.

The new route via Melbourne will be served by Airbus A330-300 aircraft.

China Airlines says it will have local traffic rights on the Melbourne-Christchurch sector, adding further choice over the Tasman for South Island travellers.

Bookings for the flight have already opened in Taiwan.

Singapore Airlines announced yesterday it was adding 27 supplementary services to its Singapore-Christchurch route during the summer months.
