First-term Taranaki regional councillor Charlotte Littlewood has been appointed to the Port Taranaki Board of Directors.
Ms Littlewood joins Taranaki Regional Council (TRC) chairman David MacLeod as the two TRC-appointed directors on the Port Taranaki board. Mr MacLeod has been a Port Taranaki director since 2001.
The TRC is the sole shareholder of Port Taranaki.
Ms Littlewood was the third highest polling candidate in the TRC election in October.
Ms Littlewood has worked in a variety of project management, strategy and research roles across Powerco Ltd and at the Ministry for Social Development in Wellington. She has a Masters of Finance with distinction, and an honours degree in economics and politics.
Ms Littlewood has also held a number of governance roles in the community, was a National Party List candidate in 2014, was chair of the New Plymouth National Party electorate party from 2012-14, and was a joint founder of the Taranaki Young Professionals organisation.
“I’m thrilled and would like to acknowledge my fellow regional councillors in appointing me to this position,” Ms Littlewood said. “I understand I am the first woman to ever join the Port Taranaki board, so it is an endorsement of my abilities that I have been appointed.
“The port plays a vital role in helping keep the Taranaki Regional Council rates as the lowest in New Zealand. I want to be part of a strong governance team that ensures the port is a thriving business, and one that supports the regional economy,” she said.
Port Taranaki chairman John Auld welcomed Ms Littlewood to the board.
“Charlotte will bring a range of important skills and a different perspective, which will be valuable in a changing industry that requires us to adapt and be innovative,” Mr Auld said.
“We welcome her aboard and look forward to working with her in the coming months and years.”
