UPDATED SATURDAY NOV 26: A woman is expected to appear in court on Wednesday following yesterday's news criminal charges have been laid over fake emails sent under the name of SFO boss Adam Feeley.

NBR broke the news (see news item below) yesterday afternoon and other media have now followed up and are reporting the alleged perpetrator will appear in court on Wednesday.

The NZ Herald has confirmed it was sent the same allegedly fake emails which NBR received.

FRIDAY NOV 25: Criminal charges have been laid over fake emails sent under the name of SFO boss Adam Feeley.

The emails – sent anonymously to NBR and at least one other media outlet – purported to be from Mr Feeley and invited select SFO staff to a function in his office.

NBR contacted the SFO boss for comment at the time and was told they were fake.

Subsequently police executed a search warrant at NBR’s Auckland offices and confirmed to NBR this afternoon that charges had been laid over the emails.

Mr Feeley could not be reached for comment this afternoon but NBR understands the alleged perpetrator is a former SFO staff member.

Mr Feeley was in the headlines some weeks ago when a real email from him was leaked showing he had invited colleagues to his SFO office to celebrate the laying of charges against Bridgecorp with a bottle to champagne taken from the failed finance company’s former office.

Police Minister Judith Collins referred the matter to the State Services Commissioner who instructed Mr Feeley to apologise but said no further action would be taken.
