Business leaders Peter Jackson, Rod Deane, Neville Crichton, Mark Weldon and Anne and David Norman are among those recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Order of New Zealand
Four members were added to the country's highest honour, the Order of New Zealand (ONZ), which is restricted to 20 living people: Sir Peter Jackson, opera singer Dame Malvina Major senior public servant Dame Margaret Bazley and Prince Philip.

New Zealand Order of Merit
Four knights were added to the New Zealand Order of Merit (KNZM): former finance minister and deputy prime minister Sir Michael Cullen, former Reserve Bank Deputy Governor and Telecom CEO and Chairman Sir Roderick Deane, Sir John Kirwan and (for services to mental health and rugby) Sir Maarten Wevers for services to the state. Sir Maarten is a former diplomat, and is the current cabinet chief executive and head of the Department of the Prime Minister.

Fashion Week founder and managing director Pieter Stewart was made a Dame of the NZ Order of Merit.

Companions of the NZ Order of Merit
New Companions of the NZ Order of Merit included superyacht industry founder and luxury car importer Neville Crichton, for services to yachting and business; PwC chairman John Shewan, for services to business; John Spencer, for services to business; June Huria, for services to corporate governance, and Anne and David Norman for services to business.

The Auckland-based Normans bought the Whitcoulls chain from its Australian receiver. The couple also own James Pascoe retail business, which includes Farmers, Pascoes, Stewart Dawsons, Prouds, Goldmark, Angus & Coote and Stevens.

Wayne Smith and current All Blacks coach Steve Hansen were honoured for their role as assistant coaches in New Zealand's Rugby World Cup win. Writer Owen Marshall and pianist Michael Houstoun were also made companions.

Queen's Service Order (QSO)
QSO recipients included outgoing NZX chief executive Mark Weldon, who coordinated a Christchurch Earthquake appeal which raised $100 million and former cabinet minister Simon Power for services as an MP.
