Boult the big winner at IPL auction

But overall disappointment for Black Caps contenders.

Tue, 17 Feb 2015

Trent Bout was the big winner in the Indian Premier League player auction overnight.

The left-arm bowler was signed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for $814,000 — the fourth highest price in this year's sale — following a bidding war between several teams.

But elsewhere there were surprisingly low bids for members of the in-form Black Caps, including batsman Kane Williamson was bagged by Hyderabad for a relatively modest $129,000.

The full list of Kiwis were signed by IPL teams:

  • Trent Bout: $814,000 (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
  • Adam Milne: $150,000 (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
  • Kane Williams: $129,000 (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
  • Jimmy Neesham: $107,000 (Kolkata Knight Riders)
  • Mitchell McClenaghan: $64,000 (Mumbai Indians)

Ross Taylor, Grant Elliot and Luke Ronchi were overlooked and unsold. So were Doug Bracewell and Anton Devcich, while Martin Guptill and Jesse Ryder did not appear on the auction list.

Brendon McCullum (Chennai), Corey Anderson (Mumbai), Matt Henry (Chennai) and Tim Southee (Rajasthan) were retained by the IPL teams they played for last year and were not entered in the auction. Last year, Mumbai signed Anderson for $866,000 — a record for an NZ player.

The highest price at this year's auction was the $3.4 million paid by the Delhi Daredevils for Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.

Overall, there were 349 players on the block over night. 67 players were sold: 43 Indians and 24 players from overseas. See full action results at www.iplt20.com/playerauction.

The IPL will be played between April 9 and May 25.
