Auckland gets 3D love in Apple Maps

PLUS: A show reel of your top tweets.

Sat, 15 Jun 2013

Hat tip to @jeremybanks who noticed Apple Maps has added a 3D view of Auckland (click the page curl bottom right of Maps to flip into satellite view. Zoom in then slide two fingers across the screen to tilt).

Other NZ cities are still waiting for the 3D love.

Curiously, although the latest update puts the super city in three dimensions, it still doesn't offer some basic updates. The Sofitel in Auckland (scene of Apple's iPhone 5 launch) is still stubbornly labeled as The Westin, even though Apple's mapping data partner TomTom caught up with the name change last year.

Elsewhere, while Dunedin International Airport is no longer located on the West Coast (as it was originally) or inside the Octagon (a crowd-sourced "correction"), NBR can now no longer find it at all.

A movie of your tweets
A weekend distraction for you. Today Vizify, in partnership with Twitter, has launched a little app for making a show reel of your top tweets, Twitpics, and Vine videos. It also shows your top followers, and when you tweet. Here's mine. Make your own here.

Sportingly, it lets you do simple edits after the clip is created. For example, I snipped @roddrury from my top followers, least the codependent nature of our relationship become too obvious.

Lastly, some weekend viewing. Checking this footage (via Andy Lark) of our America's Cup boat going airborne (skip to 6m 10s):
