No doubt looking to cash in on the halo effect from the iPad and the (cough) iPhone 4, Apple has announced a slew of new desktop hardware today.

The most unusual item is the Magic Trackpad, a $119 Bluetooth accessory (pictured above) that brings multitouch gestures, formerly the preserve of iPhone, iPad and MacBook users to a desktop Mac.

The all-in-one iMac line, starting from $1999, gets a pep up with the latest Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors and more powerful graphics (see full specs below).

Apple has also released a new Mac Pro, prices from $4999, which supports 12 processing cores, which the company claims delivers 50%  greater performance than the previous generation.

The new Mac Pro features the latest quad-core and 6-core Intel Xeon processors, all-new ATI graphics and the option for up to four 512GB solid state drives (SSD).

The company has also today unveiled a new 27-inch LED Cinema Display with 2560 x 1440 resolution, which it says has 60% more screen real estate than the 24-inch LED Cinema Display.
