Apple has confirmed bugs with iOS 5 are affecting the battery life of some iPhones.
Apple today confirmed in a statement sent to NBR that a small number of customers had reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices.
“We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”
Complaints of shorter battery life from owners of iPhone 4S’s, and updated their iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS to iOS 5 have been reported by various media with the Guardian reporting some customers experience only a few hours of battery life after the iOS 5 roll out.
Apple’s support forums also contain tales of battery life woe for iOS5 devices, with one iPhone 3GS owner saying the device ran out of battery after about six hours of non-use.
iOS 5 was released last month, with complaints about the battery issues starting soon afterwards.
The Guardian said Apple had provided developers with a new version of iOS 5 for testing, with note in the description for the update saying it contained improvements and other bug fixes including...bugs affecting battery life."
All Things D reported that factors affecting battery life seemed to include networks and usage patterns.
Interestingly enough, problems only began to emerge when iOS 5 had been finalised and released, the Guardian said, although developers had worked with the beta version of the software before release.
