Spark's mobile network was hit by another glitch today.
But the company says it was quickly resovled, and doesn't believe, at this point, that it was related to problem that caused a half-day outage on February 11.
"At approx. 3.45pm this afternoon we experienced an element failure that affected mobile services to some Spark customers," spokesman Richard Llewellyn says.
"This was quickly restored shortly after 4pm. However, some customers continued to experience localised congestion in the most populated areas like Auckland, where the network is most in demand. This congestion continued to diminish, with services returning to normal by 5pm."
The February 11 problem, which caused Spark customers around the country to lose voice, txt and mobile data service, "Was related to a corrupted data package entering our network, which caused one of our key central computer systems to register an error, and then go into a continuous loop to try to resolve the problem. This meant that although all of our cell sites continued to operate as normal, some customers’ mobile phones had difficulty signing on' to the network to transmit or receive mobile communications," Llewellyn says.
