Air travel has recovered with airports in Auckland and Wellington reporting rises in passengers number in November.

Auckland Airport handled 3.8% more travellers than a year ago. It handled 554,363 passengers in November, up from 533,889 in the same month last year. It said the increase was driven by strong Asian growth. Auckland Airport's domestic passenger traffic grew 1.5%.

Australian airports it has invested in experienced even stronger growth.

"Both Cairns Airport and Queenstown Airport saw good international passenger growth in November with Cairns experiencing 39.1% year-over-year growth," Auckland Airport said. Mackay Airport traffic to date this financial year was up 13%.

Wellington Airport's overall passenger growth was up 2% in November. This comprised a 14% lift in regional passenger numbers, a 9% increase in international and 5% fall in passengers on main trunk routes after Pacific Blue withdrew services.
