Agency hopes Christchurch has a smashing good Christmas

Tue, 07 Dec 2010

Agency Hotfoot has pulled off a swift turnaround for a campaign to help out Christchurch restaurants in the lead-up to Christmas.

As the city has had a hard time of it over the past few months, the Restaurant Association of New Zealand enlisted the agency to help raise money for Christchurch restauranteurs.

The result is a smashed billboard – see photos below – made with the help of local artist Donna Steel, Maureen Johnston from Pataka Pottery and some artistic licence from Todd Blackadder.

It’s made of broken plates and glass from the hardest-hit bars, cafes and restaurants.

It’s mobile so it’ll be seen around town over the next few weeks, before it’s auctioned off in panels on TradeMe, with proceeds to the Canterbury Earthquake Fund.

Hotfoot creative director Kim Ellison said the smashed billboard is the result of an extremely low-budget brief which was turned around in less than two weeks.

“It’s proven to be a nigh impossible deadline, but we’ve managed it and it’s launching today.

“We’ve had huge support for this project and a lot of people have donated their time and assistance which is great.”
