Crown puts up $16m for Canterbury space joint venture

Project Tāwhaki to turn the Kaitōrete Spit into a space hub and R&D centre.

A 25km stretch of land on the Canterbury coast is set to become a $300 million-a-year space hub courtesy of a joint venture between Kaitōrete Limited (Te Taumutu Rūnanga and Wairewa Rūnanga) and the Crown.

Dubbed Project Tāwhaki, the partnership will develop a space launch and R&D facilities
